Presidents Corner:
Winter Carnival is over; the 31st Annual Colby Classic is coming up soon so that means that
Spring must be right around the corner!!! The ice is plenty thick on the
lakes so don't put away the tip ups and ice fishing stuff yet
We have the Critter Dinner coming up on Feb 20th, bring your critter for
dinner and join in the fun evening. The Trudeau Big Buck awards are given
out during the Critter Dinner so it will be a fun story telling event as
well.
We and the Women of the Moose are having a fund raising dinner for Dennis
Mullen on March 28th, more details to follow.
Most importantly is our 31st Colby Classic Ice Fishing Derby, we need lots
of help for this winter fund raiser so contact me, Cecilia @518-201-4009
to sign up to help. We need people to ask local merchants for donations, people to help set up Fri March 6th at the beach house and to take
down at the end of the derby Sun March 8th.
Membership Report: As of Friday evening, February 20th the
combinations on the lock for the gate and club have been changed to the combo on your new membership cards.
The gate will to be left open for our plowing contractor.

*Robert Knobel is still sharpening knives and donating half the proceeds to the club. He can
sharpen anything with an edge on it and he does an awesome job. Contact
him at 518-524-3580
*Bob Brown has donated a library of Pierce Johnson's Books. They are in
the nicely done brown cabinet by the front door. Only two books can be
signed out at a time and only held for two weeks at a time. The sign out book is on top of the cabinet, please enjoy this gem of research and
treat it with respect. Pierce's books run the gamut from reloading, shooting skills, pistol shooting
and hunting.
*Campership: Anyone wanting to send a child to Camp Colby for Youth camp 11-13 years old
and Teen Ecology Camp for 14-17 years old please contact the club
president at 518-201-4009 for more information.
Last newsletter the question was asked: Do you know when and where the club was started and
what the town officials said about it?
Answer: It was started in 1905 in the basement of the town hall and the town officials said "to let
the boys meet there, the club won't last long". How wrong they were, we are 110 years old and
still going strong. The club was incorporated in April 1939, and the club house was built in 1948
with old telephone poles from Paul Smiths Electric and Power Company. They delivered 119
poles according to one old newsletter I found.
